Comments: What's better than than sleazy rock ‘n roll? Well, if that’s your addiction, The Erotics new CD 30 Seconds Over You will definitely help get rid of the delirium tremens, and then some. 30 Seconds Over You is their fifth release, and it’s all snarling rock, biting lyrics and harsh melodies.

The Erotics come out of the gates with “Same Nightmare Everyday.” It’s an acoustic piece, just lead singer/guitarist Mike Trash plucking an almost classical composition, and it’s not what you’d expect. After the subtle beauty of that track, though, the gloves come off on “Your Mommy Is a Monster.” You are going to hear an Alice Cooper edge to Trash’s voice, and he admits Cooper is one of his influences. The backing vocals are cool, just a “whoa-ohhhhhhh” while Trash’s gritty vocals sing the title. The solo, by either Trash or the other guitarist, Rachel Toxic, is dirty and passionate. It’s a killer track and should make you a fan immediately.

The title track is up next, and it’s bombastic, with drummer Johnny Riott slamming the hell out of the rhythms while the fat riffs plow the song along. In a recent interview with Hardrock Haven, Trash said The Erotics are NOT influenced by Social Distortion, but you’ll hear some Social D here anyway. The idea for this song is about breakin’ up and moving on … and taking a whole 30 seconds to do so.

“Don’t Make Me Make You” is their first single, and they have a video for the track, which also made it’s way to Trashpit Magazine’s Vol. 1, The New Breed. The melodies on the verses here are probably the most melodic on the entire CD; they don’t serenade you EVER, but these melodies are rich, especially on the pre-chorus. It’s a simple song, exuding sort of with an L.A. Guns vibe, and it’s one of the best on the release.

The Erotics get mean on “Ain’t Your Fix.” They emit a real East Coast punk vibe on this track, with sort of droning riffs and everything played low as hell. “Put on your pretty clothes, before you sneak home. Cuz you’re the perfect little whore, that your daddy’s ever known.” Out of all of their solos, this one is about as close to heavy metal as you’ll come.

The only time they really slow it down for the ladies, somewhat, is on “Sunshine.” Trash takes about 50 percent of the gravel out of his vocal cords on this one, showing another side to his talents, and if and when radio starts actually playing good music, “Sunshine” should find a home there.

Now, sometimes, the band can get a little childish in their humor, nowhere more so than on the chorus to the repetitive “Baby Rock Out.” It goes a little something like this: “Rock out baby rock out baby with your cock out.” It is funny, though, and there’s zero chance that they care what you think about their lyrics anyway.

The production has a real “garage” sound throughout the album, and you’ll definitely hear it on “All-American Catholic Boy.” This song is obviously a scathing criticism on a specific type of person, and the chorus says it all with, “The devil turned me into the perfect toy; I’m an All-American Catholic boy!”

30 Seconds Over You is damn cool release. The band has a growing East Coast fan base and they are heading back over to England to tour with Teenage Casket Company again in November, so there’s no telling how popular these guys could become. Pick up their new CD today, otherwise, there’s no way you can honestly rock out with your cock out, period.
