THE EROTICS - 21st Century S.O.B.

A call-to-arms for those of the "militant trash glam" crowd, culling its anger from an obscure region of the Universe while shoving down our throats just about everything we thought gutter rock had abandoned. Or did we just abandon gutter rock? Anyway, toss in some occasional slide guitar, solid melody (it's under there somewhere!), ultra bratty Michael Monroe-esque vocals and basically the class of the Impotent Sea Snakes and you have an Erotics experience (note the "s")! It's evident that the band, though shocking in some of its subject matter, is really a determined throwback to the late 70s, early 80s street rock. You know, fun but psycho! Tracks like "Girls on Drugs" and "I Wanna Be Your Bastard" are twisted party rock for retro crowd. With band member names glowing with such intentional kiche as Jett Damage, Michael Trash and Uzi, who cannot help but wonder if the MTV top 10 take themselves a tad too seriously? Indeed, the Erotics are gonna have a good time, whether you do or not. Not for everyone, but for those who get where this review is coming from, well, you know whether it's for you - Brian Coles
